Cllr Ayas Fallon-Khan, Brighton & Hove City Council

Cllr Ayas Fallon-Khan shares how Brighton & Hove City Council have used Social Media to create a two-way conversation between council representatives and residents, make better use of staff resources and to help save costs.

He also highlights the healthy debate which can come from openly engaging with the public using Social Media but how this has allowed them to find out what residents actually want and ensure the council budget is allocated accordingly.

Through online conversations Brighton & Hove City Council have also been able to provide residents with a more informed description of the services the council provides. Most interestingly, Cllr Fallon-Khan points out that even if organisations aren’t actively using Social Media as part of their communications strategy, conversations about the organisation will still be taking place online and it’s therefore better to be part of that conversation.
